If you are reporting a problem, it helps a great deal if you include your device (which iPhone or iPad), your iOS version, the screen where it happened, and the steps that led to it.
You can practice English or Japanese. Explanations and translations appear in whichever of the two you have set as your native language.
Up to 5 minutes. Recording stops automatically when you reach the limit.
Three times a day. The count resets when the date changes on our servers.
You can generate audio for up to 20 new sentences per day. Replaying a sentence whose audio already exists does not count towards that limit, so audio you have heard before stays available even once you have hit it.
No. You can review as much as you like.
Each time you get feedback, we estimate a CEFR-equivalent level from the variety of your vocabulary, the complexity of your sentences, and your grammatical accuracy. When certain conditions are met your level rises automatically and the App tells you. You can also set it yourself from Settings › Level.
Suggestions are pitched at your current level. If they feel too hard or too easy, adjust your level from Settings › Level.
No. Recordings are never stored on our servers. The audio file stays in temporary storage on your device, and is sent to a third-party speech recognition service only at the moment it is transcribed.
We keep the 30 most recent sessions for each learning language. Beyond that, sessions older than 7 days are deleted automatically. Anything from the last 7 days is kept regardless of how many sessions there are.
No. Even after the session a phrase came from has passed the retention period above and been deleted, the phrase, its translation, and its explanation remain. They are removed only if you delete them yourself or close your account.
To OpenAI for transcription, feedback, and text-to-speech; to Supabase, Apple, and Google for storage and sign-in; and to RevenueCat to manage subscription status. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture. Nothing is sent for advertising or analytics.
Sign-in works with an Apple ID or a Google account only. There is no email-and-password sign-in.
Even with the same email address, signing in with Apple and signing in with Google give you two separate accounts. If your learning data seems to be missing, check that you are signing in the same way you did before.
Settings › Account › Email. This address is only for us to reach you; it is not used to sign in.
Settings › Account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Your profile, your feedback history, and everything saved to My List are all removed.
Deleting your account does not stop your subscription from renewing. To stop being charged, turn off auto-renewal at the App Store before you delete your account (see below).
On your device, go to Settings › your name at the top (Apple ID) › Subscriptions › Monolo › Cancel Subscription. You cannot cancel from inside the App. Auto-renewal must be turned off at least 24 hours before the next renewal date.
No. Paid features remain available until the period you have already paid for ends.
If you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the trial ends, you will not be charged. Otherwise the subscription converts to a paid period when the trial ends and you are charged.
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds are Apple’s decision. Request one directly from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Try “Restore Purchases” on the subscription screen. If that does not help, check that you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy, then get in touch using the address above.
Check that notifications are allowed for Monolo in your device’s Settings › Notifications. Then turn reminders on in the App’s Settings and choose a time.
